{"id":1086,"date":"2008-08-20T00:30:44","date_gmt":"2008-08-19T13:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fffaif.wordpress.com\/?p=1086"},"modified":"2008-08-20T00:30:44","modified_gmt":"2008-08-19T13:30:44","slug":"call-for-assistance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/?p=1086","title":{"rendered":"Call for Assistance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fromelles.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Fromelles Descendant Database<\/a>, in co-operation with British Historian\u00a0Peter Barton, are seeking assistance in gathering evidence for the Fromelles study.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/08\/fromelles_pheasant-wood_fouilles-2-fromelles-027.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1087\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/08\/fromelles_pheasant-wood_fouilles-2-fromelles-027.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Are you able to assist in the following request from Tim Lycett, Fromelles Descendant Database, in regard to Australian Soldiers \u2018missing at Fromelles&#8217;:<br \/>\n<em>I have recently been speaking to the very respected British Historian,\u00a0Peter Barton, who is the Co-Secretary, All Party Parliamentary War Graves and Battlefields Heritage Group.\u00a0\u00a0 He has been very involved in the official\u00a0Fromelles investigation as it&#8217;s primary historian and is currently still searching through the archives of the Red Cross in Geneva and the German war records in Bavaria.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>He has requested that I collate a list of\u00a0the personal belongings\u00a0returned to relatives after the soldier&#8217;s death\u00a0<strong>that\u00a0remain in the family&#8217;s possession today<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 This could include the ID discs, bibles, coins, letters, wallets, rings, buttons, badges\u00a0etc.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It is important to make a comprehensive study of every available aspect of this case. The &#8216;material culture&#8217;, as it is so blandly called, is one such aspect and is as important a part of the historical jigsaw of this project as any other.<br \/>\n<\/em><em>I would therefore very much appreciate if everyone could possibly forward me a list of any items known to still be with your respective families.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0(If possible\u00a0a\u00a0photo or scanned\u00a0copy would be very helpful) .<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you are descendant or know of a descendant who could assist please contact Tim Lycett at <a href=\"mailto:fromelles@gmail.com\">fromelles@gmail.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Fromelles Descendant Database, in co-operation with British Historian\u00a0Peter Barton, are seeking assistance in gathering evidence for the Fromelles study.
