Are you interested in finding out about attending the centenary celebrations at Gallipoli on 25th April 2015?<\/p>\n

The Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on the Centenary of Anzac\u00a0 Warren Snowdon\u00a0 provided the following information on 13 May 2013:<\/p>\n

\u201cA ballot is the fairest and most transparent approach to\u00a0 the allocation of attendance passes for the centenary commemorations at\u00a0 Gallipoli, within previously agreed and announced capacity of 10,500\u00a0 places at the Anzac Commemorative Site,\u201d Mr Snowdon said.
\n\u201cMy New\u00a0 Zealand counterpart, the Hon Michael Woodhouse,\u00a0 Minister for Veterans\u2019 Affairs, has made a similar announcement\u00a0 today.\u201d
\nFollowing the agreement of the Turkish Government, the Government had\u00a0 previously announced that the places will be shared between Australian and NZ\u00a0 (8,000 Australians, 2,000 New Zealanders) and up to 500 places have been set\u00a0 aside for official representatives and guests, including representatives of all\u00a0 countries that served in the Gallipoli campaign.
\nMr Snowdon said the Government had carefully considered options for the\u00a0 ballot, drawing on feedback received from members of the public, the veteran and\u00a0 Defence communities and tour operators as part of a public consultation\u00a0 undertaken in 2012.
\nSome of the places\u00a0 available to Australians will be reserved for special representatives\u00a0 including:<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Widows of Australian First\u00a0 World War veterans \u2013 they do not need to participate in the ballot and will be\u00a0 included as part of Australia \u2019s official representatives,\u00a0 with a companion, if fit to travel.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Five per cent of places\u00a0 allocated in the ballot will be reserved for Australian direct descendants of\u00a0 veterans of the Gallipoli campaign \u2013 with preference being given to the sons and\u00a0 daughters of Gallipoli veterans.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Five per cent of places in\u00a0 the ballot will be reserved for veterans who have qualifying service or who have\u00a0 deployed on any operations outside Australia , whether they are warlike,\u00a0 non-warlike or peacetime operations.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Five per cent of places\u00a0 will be set aside outside the ballot process for representative secondary school\u00a0 children and their chaperones, to be allocated and managed through the states\u00a0 and territories.<\/p>\n

The remaining places\u00a0 (3,000 double passes) will be available for all Australians.\u00a0 The following\u00a0 criteria will apply to the ballot:<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Applicants must be an\u00a0 Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia to register, but do not need to be\u00a0 living in Australia at the time of\u00a0 registration.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Applicants must be a\u00a0 minimum of 18 years of age on, or before, 25 April 2015 to\u00a0 register.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Applicants can only\u00a0 register once.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 All passes will be issued\u00a0 as double passes \u2013 the accompanying pass holder does not need to be an\u00a0 Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia .<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No additional passes will\u00a0 be provided to an individual that is successful in the\u00a0 ballot.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pass holders must make all\u00a0 arrangements for their travel and cover all costs\u00a0 including flights, accommodation, transport and travel insurance etc.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe ballot is expected to be open for registrations on 1 November 2013\u00a0 and close on 31 January 2014. Details on how to register will be\u00a0 available later in the year following the engagement of a provider to conduct\u00a0 the ballot,\u201d Mr Snowdon said.
\n\u201cAdvice will be provided to individuals on the ballot outcome in March\u00a0 2014, to ensure those successful have enough time to organise and pay for their\u00a0 trip.\u00a0 This will also allow tour operators to make specific arrangements\u00a0 with those travellers who have secured passed for the Anzac Day commemorations\u00a0 at Gallipoli.\u201d
\nThe Turkish Government has entrusted the Australian and New Zealand\u00a0 Governments to manage the events on 25 April 2015 which include the Dawn Service\u00a0 and subsequent services at Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair.\u00a0 Both governments\u00a0 wish to express their gratitude to the Turkish Government for the level of\u00a0 support that it has provided, and its commitment to the events associated with\u00a0 the Centenary of Anzac.
\n\u201cThe Gallipoli campaign lasted eight months from April to December 1915,\u00a0 and I encourage those who are thinking about applying for the ballot, and may\u00a0 not be eligible for a special representative place, to consider whether they\u00a0 want to visit Gallipoli at another time in 2015,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
