{"id":2290,"date":"2009-02-03T23:04:17","date_gmt":"2009-02-03T12:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fffaif.wordpress.com\/?p=2290"},"modified":"2009-02-03T23:04:17","modified_gmt":"2009-02-03T12:04:17","slug":"whats-new-at-naa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/?p=2290","title":{"rendered":"What&#039;s new at NAA?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Archives of Australia is currently hosting an exhibition, in Canberra, entitled <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.naa.gov.au\/whats-on\/exhibitions\/shell-shocked.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Shell Shocked: Australia after the Armistice<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-2292\" href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.wordpress.com\/2009\/02\/03\/whats-new-at-naa\/shell-shocked\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2292\" title=\"shell-shocked\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/02\/shell-shocked.jpg\" alt=\"shell-shocked\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/shell-shocked.jpg 200w, https:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/shell-shocked-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">NAA describes the exhibit as exploring <em>how the community dealt with the lingering effects of the war over the next 20 years.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.naa.gov.au\/about-us\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">National Archives of Australia&#8217;s <\/a>website has recently introduced a new feature called <em>Mapping Our Anzacs<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This feature identifies the number of soldiers who were born in each town and how many enlisted in the town.\u00a0 It appears to be based on the information in the enlistment Attestation Papers.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-2293\" href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.wordpress.com\/2009\/02\/03\/whats-new-at-naa\/mapping-our-anzacs\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2293\" title=\"mapping-our-anzacs\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/02\/mapping-our-anzacs.jpg\" alt=\"mapping-our-anzacs\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/mapping-our-anzacs.jpg 200w, https:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/mapping-our-anzacs-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">It provides the opportunity to <em>find a service person, add a note or photo to the scrapbook, build a tribute.<\/em> For more details click <a href=\"http:\/\/mappingouranzacs.naa.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">*****<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\">The<em><strong> Families and Friends of the First AIF<\/strong><\/em> thanks the Australian, UK and French governments for affording Australian and British soldiers &#8211; presently buried in mass graves at Pheasant Wood &#8211; dignified individual reburials in a new CWGC cemetery at Fromelles, and applauds Minister Snowdon and his British counterpart, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence and Minister for Veterans, Kevan Jones MP, for their joint decision to DNA test the remains at exhumation and use every reasonable method to attempt identification of each soldier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><span style=\"color:#333333;\">*****<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">\u00a0<span style=\"color:#800000;\"><strong><em>FFFAIF<\/em><\/strong> supports the inscription of <strong>\u201cFROMELLES\u201d<\/strong> on National and State Memorials<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Archives of Australia is currently hosting an exhibition, in Canberra, entitled Shell Shocked: Australia after the Armistice.
