{"id":261,"date":"2008-05-21T12:33:30","date_gmt":"2008-05-21T01:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fffaif.wordpress.com\/?p=261"},"modified":"2008-05-21T12:33:30","modified_gmt":"2008-05-21T01:33:30","slug":"wreathing-laying-at-ieper","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/?p=261","title":{"rendered":"Ieper wreathing laying"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/menin-gate_members-2_08.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/menin-gate_members-1_08.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/menin-gate_members-1_081.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/wreath-laying.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-262 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/wreath-laying.jpg\" alt=\"FFFAIF wreath laying 28\/04\/08\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Australian and Belgium members of the <em>Families and Friend of the First AIF<\/em> gathered at Menin Gates, Ieper, to participate in the Last Post Ceremony on Monday 28<sup>th<\/sup> April, 2008.<\/p>\n<p>The Last Post Ceremony has been performed\u00a0under the Menin Gate Memorial in Ieper, Belgium at exactly eight o&#8217;clock each evening since 1928 (except for the period of\u00a0German occupation during World War II). \u00a0The Last Post &#8211; the traditional salute to the fallen warrior &#8211; is performed by buglers of the Last Post Association, connected with the Ieper volunteer fire brigade to honour the memory of the soldiers of the British Empire, who fought and died in the Ypres Salient during the First World War.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/menin-gate_members-2_08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-263\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/menin-gate_members-2_08.jpg\" alt=\"Belgium &amp; Australian FFFAIF members\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As part of the commemoration the <em>Ode<\/em> is recited and wreaths are laid on the Memorial. <em>Families and Friend of the First AIF<\/em> Secretary Chris Munro recited the <em>Ode.<\/em> Chris and \u00a0Belgium member Anny De Decker then laid a wreath on behalf of the <em>Families and Friend of the First AIF<\/em> watched by Belgium Members Johan Durnez, Shrapnel Charlie (Ivan Sinnaeve) and his wife Marie Claire and Australian members Stuart Curry, David Wilson and Jim Munro.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/menin-gate_members-1_081.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-265\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2008\/05\/menin-gate_members-1_081.jpg\" alt=\"Australian &amp; Belgium members 28\/04\/08\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Australian and Belgium members of the Families and Friend of the First AIF gathered at Menin Gates, Ieper, to participate in the Last Post Ceremony on Monday 28th April, 2008.
