[Chris Munro]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Four speakers addressed the meeting:<br \/>\nBob Newton spoke on <em>Chasing the memory of a fighting family,<\/em> which followed his initial search\u00a0for information on the role of the Railway Ordnance Division in which his grandfather served.\u00a0 This led to investigating the contribution of his grandmother\u2019s family where four of the sons served with tragic loss of lives during and shortly after the war. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4141\" href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/27\/dubbo-meeting\/p1010951_sml\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4141\" title=\"P1010951_sml\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/p1010951_sml.jpg\" alt=\"P1010951_sml\" width=\"336\" height=\"379\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Photo: <em>FFFAIF<\/em> President Russell Curley presents Bob Newton with a Certificate of Appreciation. [Chris Munro]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Andrew Dunkley, local ABC Regional Program Manager and radio breakfast announcer, shared his experiences in investigating his grandfather\u2019s service in the Great War which has led to him writing a book based on his grandfather\u2019s war experiences.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4143\" href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/27\/dubbo-meeting\/p1010950\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4143  aligncenter\" title=\"P1010950\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/05\/p1010950.jpg\" alt=\"P1010950\" width=\"348\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Photo: <em>FFFAIF <\/em>President Russell Curley and Andrew Dunkley. [Chris Munro]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Graeme Hosken provided an interesting insight into<strong> <\/strong>what the Aussies got up to after the Armistice with a slide presentation entitled <em>The Australian \u2018invasion\u2019 of Belgium 1918-19.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Andrew Dunkley has recorded some details of the FFFAIF Regional Meeting in his web log (blog) for 25\/05\/09, which can be read by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.abc.net.au\/nsw\/western_plains_breakfast\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The next meeting of the FFFAIF will be the <em>John Laffin Memorial Lecture<\/em> (JLML) to be held on Sunday 12 July at Ashfield RSL Club in Sydney.\u00a0 Record this in your diary and look for the <em>NEWS ITEM<\/em> in the next few weeks for more details.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">*****<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color:#008000;\">The<em><strong> Families and Friends of the First AIF<\/strong><\/em> thanks the Australian, UK and French governments for affording Australian and British soldiers \u2013 presently buried in mass graves at Pheasant Wood \u2013 dignified individual reburials in a new CWGC cemetery at Fromelles, and applauds Minister Snowdon and his British counterpart, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence and Minister for Veterans, Kevan Jones MP, for their joint decision to DNA test the remains at exhumation and use every reasonable method to attempt identification of each soldier.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second regional meeting for 2009 of the FFFAIF was held at Dubbo RSL on Sunday 24 May.
