For more information on the Battle click<a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.wordpress.com\/research-tools\/the-battle-of-fromelles\/\" target=\"_blank\"> here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>FFFAIF<\/em> Secretary, Chris Munro attended the Service of Remembrance of the 94<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of the Battle of Aubers Ridge on 9 May 2009 and has produced the following pictorial report.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;\"><strong>94<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary<br \/>\nBattle Aubers Ridge<br \/>\nService of Remembrance<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp mceIEcenter\" style=\"text-align:left;\">The Australian Memorial Park was the site of the commemorative service organised by Mrs Victoria Burbidge the British Representative,\u00a0<em>Fromelles &amp; Weppes Terre de M\u00e9moire 14-18<\/em> (Fromelles Museum). This memorial was built to commemorate the memory of Captain Paul Adrian Kennedy, who was killed leading &#8220;B&#8221; Company of the 2nd Rifle Brigade on 9th May 1915. Captain Kennedy&#8217;s mother bought this plot of land after the war and erected the memorial in remembrance of her son and his colleagues who fell on the same day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4375\" style=\"width: 458px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4375\" href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.wordpress.com\/2009\/06\/10\/aubers-ridge-service\/8-et-9-mai-2009-ceremonies-338_sml\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4375\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4375\" title=\"8 et 9 mai 2009 - C\u00e9r\u00e9monies 338_sml\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/06\/8-et-9-mai-2009-ceremonies-338_sml.jpg\" alt=\"Kennedy Private Memorial Fromelles\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4375\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kennedy Private Memorial Fromelles<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Although the Battle for Aubers Ridge took place a year before the Australian Imperial Forces saw action on the Western Front, there were Australians who took part in the fighting. They included Sergeant Charles Holmes, of the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Battalion East Lancashire Regiment, who was born in Adelaide, and died during the battle. Also Horace Mawdesley who was born in Geraldton, Western Australia, but was living in London when war broke out in August 1914.\u00a0 Enlisting in\u00a0September, he was posted to the 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Battalion Rifle Brigade and was also killed in the Battle of Aubers Ridge.
