A 55-strong CMF (Citizen Military Forces) battalion accompanied the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force to the German settlements of New Guinea in 1914.<\/p>\n<p>Inaugurated in July 1998, Reserve Forces Day commemorates the service and achievements of the Reserve Forces of the Australian Defence Forces, both past and present.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4597\" href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.wordpress.com\/2009\/07\/01\/reserve-forces-day\/reserve-forces-day-canberra_09\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4597 alignnone\" title=\"Reserve Forces Day Canberra_09\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2009\/06\/reserve-forces-day-canberra_09.jpg\" alt=\"Reserve Forces Day Canberra_09\" width=\"448\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">Photo: Reserve Forces Day, Canberra, Saturday 27 June 2009 [Chris Munro]<\/p>\n<p>Commemorations were held in Canberra on 27 June 2009.
