{"id":8328,"date":"2010-04-14T01:30:39","date_gmt":"2010-04-13T14:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/?p=8328"},"modified":"2010-04-14T01:30:39","modified_gmt":"2010-04-13T14:30:39","slug":"fromelles-coin-issued","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/?p=8328","title":{"rendered":"Fromelles Coin issued"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a title=\"The Royal Mint\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ramint.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">Royal Australian Mint<\/a> this month issued a collectible 20 cent coin commemorating Australia\u2019s Lost Soldiers of Fromelles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/04\/fromelles-coin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8329\" title=\"Fromelles coin\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/04\/fromelles-coin.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"299\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made in a joint media release the Assistant Treasurer, Senator Nick Sherry, and the Minister for Veterans\u2019 Affairs:<br \/>\u201cThis coin is a continuation of the Mint\u2019s Australia Remembers series, exploring our nation\u2019s war experiences and military history behind and beyond the battlefields,\u201d the Assistant Treasurer said.<br \/>\u201cThe coin design is based on the Cobbers statue which stands in the Australian Memorial Park at Fromelles.<br \/>The design features a circle enclosing an artist\u2019s impression of the Cobbers statue and, to the right, the inscription \u201820\u2019.<br \/>Outside of the circle are the inscriptions \u2018Australia Remembers\u2019 and \u2018Lost Soldiers of Fromelles\u2019,\u201d the Assistant Treasurer said.<br \/>The Cobbers statue by Melbourne sculptor Peter Corlett was unveiled at the former battlefield in France in 1998 and a replica is installed at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne&#8230;&#8230; The Royal Australian Mint\u2019s 2010 Australia Remembers project was completed in association with the Australian Army Fromelles Project Group and the Office of Australian War Graves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/04\/fromelles-coin-folder.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8330\" title=\"Fromelles coin folder\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/04\/fromelles-coin-folder.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\">The coin can be ordered on line at the Royal Mint by clicking <a href=\"http:\/\/mintissue.ramint.gov.au\/mintissue\/product.asp?code=803451\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday 20<sup>th<\/sup> April, to celebrate the release of the Australia\u2019s <em>Lost Soldiers of Fromelles<\/em> 20cent coin,<em> <\/em>the Royal Mint, Canberra is hosting an address by <strong>Lambis Englezos AM<\/strong>, <strong>Richard Wright<\/strong>, Emeritus Professor of Anthropology, University of Sydney and Senior Forensic Advisor to Oxford Archaeology, and <strong>Lieutenant Colonel James Brownlie,<\/strong> Project Manager, Australian Fromelles Project Group.
