{"id":8651,"date":"2010-05-08T17:38:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-08T06:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/?p=8651"},"modified":"2010-05-08T17:38:00","modified_gmt":"2010-05-08T06:38:00","slug":"more-fromelles-names","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/?p=8651","title":{"rendered":"More Fromelles names"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/05\/dewar-2-web.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/05\/dewar-2-sml-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8656\" title=\"Dewar 2 sml web\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/05\/dewar-2-sml-web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"448\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong>Photo:<\/strong> 3047 Private Robert Arthur <strong>Dewar<\/strong>, 55th Battalion<\/p>\n<p>The Minister for Veterans&#8217; Affairs and Minister for Defence Personnel, Alan Griffin,\u00a0on Saturday 8 May announced the names of a further 19 soldiers who were recently reburied in Fromelles, France.\u00a0 The men\u2019s families have now been informed and the soldiers\u2019 names are below.<br \/>\nThe new identifications brings the total number of named Australian soldiers to 94.\u00a0<br \/>\nMr Griffin said, \u201cI am pleased to announce the names of these 19 Australian soldiers, whose names have been lost\u00a0to history for almost a century.<br \/>\n\u201cThese soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice at Fromelles in the service of their nation and this will not be forgotten. Their families now know where these\u00a0 men are laid to rest, nearly 94 years after the battle.<br \/>\n\u201cThey have been given the dignity of a burial in an individual grave in the new purpose-built Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery with full military honours, and their name will appear on their headstone.&#8221;<br \/>\nOf\u00a0the\u00a0250 soldiers recovered from Pheasant Wood, in the village of Fromelles, 205 have now been\u00a0identified as Australians.The number of British soldiers identified by the force in which they served remains unchanged at three, and 42\u00a0soldiers remain \u2018Known unto God\u2019.<br \/>\nAll but one of the soldiers have now been reburied in individual graves in the Fromelles (Pheasant Wood) Military Cemetery, with the final soldier being laid to rest on the 94th anniversary of the Battle of Fromelles on 19\u00a0July\u00a02010.<\/p>\n<p>The names of the soldiers identified at the May 2010 Joint Identification Board are:<\/p>\n<p>3761 Private Raymond Charles <strong>Bishop<\/strong>, 55th Battalion<br \/>\nLieutenant Eric Harding <strong>Chinner<\/strong>, 32nd Battalion<br \/>\n2006 Private George <strong>Croft<\/strong>, 30th Battalion<br \/>\n2010 Private Harry <strong>Croker<\/strong>, 30th Battalion<br \/>\n3047 Private Robert Arthur <strong>Dewar<\/strong>, 55th Battalion<br \/>\n4509 Private Laurence <strong>Harriott<\/strong>, 54th Battalion<br \/>\n188 Private Charles Henry <strong>Hawcroft<\/strong>, 30th Battalion<br \/>\n4807 Private David George <strong>Irvin<\/strong>, 54th Battalion<br \/>\n293 Private Hugh <strong>McLean<\/strong>, 32nd Battalion<br \/>\n269 Private Joseph Howard <strong>Nevill<\/strong>, 31st Battalion<br \/>\n2906 Lance Corporal George <strong>Pagan<\/strong>, 54th Battalion<br \/>\n320 Private Frederick <strong>Parry<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>29th Battalion<br \/>\n3099 2nd Lieutenant Albert Ernest <strong>Pratt<\/strong>, 53rd Battalion<br \/>\n4614 Private Malcolm <strong>Spence<\/strong>, 30th Battalion<br \/>\n2898 Corporal Gregory Francis <strong>Stalgis<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>14th Machine Gun Company<br \/>\n4885 Private Aime <strong>Verpillot<\/strong>, 53rd Battalion<br \/>\n4617 Private Joseph Patrick (AKA Wailes) <strong>Wallis<\/strong>, 54th Battalion<br \/>\n2910 Private Thomas Richard <strong>Webb<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>60th Battalion<br \/>\n1314 Private Ernest Frank <strong>Wilkin<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>29th Battalion<\/p>\n<p>These 19 names will be added to the\u00a0list of 75 Australian\u00a0soldiers whose remains were recovered from the burial pits at Pheasant Wood and whose identities have been established by the Fromelles Joint Identification Board.
