{"id":8874,"date":"2010-06-09T00:48:17","date_gmt":"2010-06-08T13:48:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/?p=8874"},"modified":"2010-06-09T00:48:17","modified_gmt":"2010-06-08T13:48:17","slug":"books-for-des-cobbers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/fffaif.org.au\/?p=8874","title":{"rendered":"Books for &#039;des Cobbers&#039;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:left;\">Late in 2009, members of the Retired Victorian Principals Association (RVPA) were privileged and delighted to be addressed by Lambis Englezos AM on the background to the Battle of Fromelles and the much later discovery of the buried soldiers at Pheasant Wood.<\/p>\n<p>The attendees were very taken with Lambis\u2019 talk and raised some funds via a raffle. After discussion with Lambis, it was decided to buy some Australian children\u2019s books for the \u201cEcole Publique Des Cobbers\u201d, the new school in Fromelles.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/fromelles-school-weathervane_web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Fromelles school weathervane_web\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/fromelles-school-weathervane_web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"341\" height=\"336\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>Photo: <\/strong>The weathervane atop Fromelles School [Wayne Worladge]<\/p>\n<p>President of the RVPA, Helen Worladge, is a grand-niece of Simon Fraser, the soldier immortalized in the \u201cCobbers\u201d statues at Fromelles and Melbourne. Helen travelled with her husband and daughter to Fromelles in November 2009 and met Carole Laignel and Mayor Hubert Huchette.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/des-cobbers_web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8877\" title=\"des Cobbers_web\" src=\"http:\/\/fffaif.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/06\/des-cobbers_web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"448\" height=\"335\" \/><\/a>Photo:<\/strong>\u00a0Helen Worladge (right)\u00a0and\u00a0daughter\u00a0Louisa\u00a0outside \u2018Cobbers School\u2019 at Fromelles [Wayne Worladge]\u00a0 <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After Helen&#8217;s return to Australia, a visit to Reader\u2019s Feast Bookshop in Melbourne was duly\u00a0arranged to select the books for the school.
