FFFAIF Honorary and Life Members

FFFAIF recognises as Honorary Members people who have made an extraordinary contribution to Digger heritage.

Honorary Members include:

  • FFFAIF Patron-in-Chief and past Governor-General, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd);
  • inaugural FFFAIF Patron-in-Chief and past Governor-General, Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO;
  • immediate past Patron-in-Chief and past Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK AC(Mil) CVO MC (RETD);
  • former NSW Governor Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO;
  • Lieutenant General Ken Gillespie AC DSC CSM (Ret’d), former Chief of Army and former Chair NSW Centenary of Anzac Council;
  • Mr Kerry Stokes AC, former Chair, Australian War Memorial Council and AWM benefactor;
  • Dr Brendan Nelson AO, former Chair, Australian War Memorial Council;

  • Professor Peter Dennis Emeritus Professor of History and former head of the Department of History at UNSW Canberra, creator of the ‘Australian Anzacs in the Great War’ and ‘New Zealand’s Great War databases.

  • Dr. Ross Bastiaan AM RFD for service to Digger Heritage by his design, sculpturing and installation of 289 bronze military history plaques in more than 20 different countries.
  • Dr. Roger Lee for his roles as the Australian Army Historian and Head of the Australian Army History Unit from 1996 to 2016, and Historian at the Australian War Memorial
  • Dr. Ross McMullin for his roles as a member of FFFAIF and the Friends of the 15th Brigade and award-winning historian and biographer and speaker on topics commemorating the Great War and their families.
  • Patrick Lindsay AM for his contribution to raising awareness of the Battle of Fromelles as well as more generally raising awareness of the service and sacrifice and contribution of Australian soldiers, sailors, airmen and nurses and their families during and after periods of conflict.
  • Mike Goodwin OAM in recognition of his service to military history preservation and his dedicated leadership of Mackay North State High School’s Lest We Forget Project since 1998.
  • Martial Delebarre AM in recognition of his service to Australia-France relations, particularly the preservation and promotion of Australian military history in Fromelles.

In addition, FFFAIF has given its highest honour of Life Membership to the following members who have devoted much effort to FFFAIF activities over an extended period:

  • Past president Russell Curley (Committee Member for 13 years, President 2006-2015);
  • Commemorations Officer, Margaret Snodgrass OAM (Committee Member for 14 years);
  • Graeme Hosken, Secretary and Editor of DIGGER and COBBER (Committee Member for 18 years);
  • Maurice Campbell, former Publicity Officer (Committee Member for 18 years); and
  • Jim Munro, current President. (Committee Member for 13 years, President 2015-present).

To facilitate these distinguished members being able to keep up-to-date with strategic projects intended to preserve and enhance “Digger Heritage” and Keep the Memory Alive and to hear of FFFAIF progress and aspirations and to assist in fundraising for Headstone Projects, Commemorations and Memorials, FFFAIF has recently established an Honorary and Life Members Council.
